Get fit with Wii Mahesh Sharma | March 12, 2008
NINTENDO hopes to introduce the concept of exercise to a generation raised by computer games, as it gears up to launch a balance board accessory for its Wii console on May 8.
Wii Fit comes with the motion-sensitive Wii balance board, which detects a person’s centre of gravity and uses the information to allow players to do exercises.
Specific activities include torso twists, push-up challenges, rhythm boxing yoga poses, soccer heading, ski jump, tightrope walk and bubble balance.
The board is also able to detect a person’s body mass index, and this can be regularly measured to monitor physical changes..
When the interactive Wii console was first launched, it sparked a rise in a number of injuries that were caused by the repetitive action of using the controller, which were dubbed ‘Wii-itis’.
Available at all major retailers, Wii Fit will cost $149.95.
